Beta Labs improvements

New badges for active contributors at Beta Labs

Today we'll be making some changes to the badges that you can earn as a contributor at Beta Labs. We're going to simplify the badges we give out and switch off the Top Reviewer, Bug Buster, and Innovator badges since they were proving difficult to maintain in a reliable and fair way. In short, we're adding two new badges and holding on to two old badges.

We are trying a new approach, by which we aim to improve the service Beta Labs provides for all. And we are doing this with the help of the community.

Based on their activity history, we've selected a few users and empowered them with tools to help clean up the forum as it is getting more and more messy. What these users are able to do is:

Help us make better betas - accept follow-up questionnaires

Hi!

We've been working on a new way to get feedback from you guys. We now have the capability to send you follow-up emails or SMS messages about the betas you've downloaded. As we wish to respect your free choice, we'd rather send the follow-up messages to only those of you who welcome them.

Beta Labs site update completed

The site maintenance break is now over and all content and functionality (including commenting and posting to the forums) should be restored. Thanks for your patience!

You'll notice right away that there are some things that are presented differently, and some things are completely new. While these changes might cause some anxiety at first, we hope that they'll make things easier, more efficient, or more useful in the long run. Here's a rundown:

Nokia Beta Labs site maintenance today

Today the Nokia Beta Labs site will undergo a maintenance break for a few hours beginning at 11:00 Finnish time (GMT+2) so that we can implement many of the updates that we gave you a preview of in December.

Tell us how we are doing by taking ~~this survey~~! The results are extremely important to us at Beta Labs and will have a direct impact on our work - and thus quite directly affects you as well.

It won't take long to answer, and I promise to share the results afterwards. The survey has about 10-15 mandatory multiple choice questions and one optional open ended question. It should not take you more than 5 minutes to answer.
