Nokia Point & Find updated: more devices, more convenient installation
Thu, 2010-01-21 15:13Written by Sophie-Charlotte Moatti, P&F team
Hello everyone,
Our team has been hard at work, listening to your feedback, and incorporating your comments into our latest builds of Nokia Point & Find.
Today we release a new version of Nokia Point & Find, which supports three more devices: the Nokia N97 mini, the Nokia 5530 XpressMusic and the Nokia 5800 XpressMusic. On those devices, you need to ensure that you run the latest device software before installing Point & Find. Otherwise, you may get the following error message: “Certificate error, Contact application / service provider .” This is a known issue, and we appreciate your patience as we are looking into it.
We’ve also made it possible on the N97 mini, 5530 XpressMusic, and 5800 XpressMusic to install Point & Find on mass memory instead of phone memory. However, with other devices, you need to install P&F on your phone memory. Otherwise, the service won’t work.
In addition, we did some “under-the-hood” bug fixing and optimization, including on battery consumption and on the real-time recognition algorithm.

Stay tuned with some improvements to the user experience coming in our next release. In the meantime, please download the Nokia Point & Find version today and let us know what you think by posting your comments on our forum.
Thank you,
-Sophie-Charlotte Moatti and the P&F team

The good news is that the new version shows the rectangle on 2D barcode view on the N97 and I have managed to recognise and respond correctly to a 2D barcode. Well done guys.

When N900-Maemo5 version?
Thanks.
Installed it in my 5800 and nothing works, just black screens everytime (even when not using the camera)... maybe the next release will work?

Hi speedgrapher,
Could you please let me know a couple of things, so we can reproduce your experience?
1. did you download the client from our site, or from the Ovi Store?
2. did you install the client on your phone memory?
Many thanks,
SC
P&F team
Hi mbrett,
Firstly, thank you very much for your positive feedback. You have been a follower of P&F from day 1, it means a lot to hear that you have a positive experience!
May I suggest that you try a couple of use cases, e.g. tagging in the City Guide and recognizing a poster in Movies for instance, and give us your feedback, or write a review? If you have the time, it would be of great help...
Many thanks again, we look forward to your suggestions.

@scmoatti
1.- I downloaded from pointandfind.nokia.com using my mobile.
2.- The installer didn't let me choose - it automatically installed in phone memory.
my device details are below (5800 xpressmusic)
thanks for your help!

also having the same problem as @speedgrapher.
Downloaded it from official website for my nokia n97 but it automatically installs on the phone memory.
Soo dissapointed whenever i try using the movies function ive tried bunch of other poster none of them worked. I was also excited about the shopping feature but i think i almost scanned everything in my house and it just said no product information available but my other barcode reader was able to search it on the web. And when the 2D barcode says "hello" it doesn't show the word hello it searches it up on google. really dissapointed. I need to uninstall this app immediately.
make more beta app to work on n900-maemo. when P&F for N900 maemo?
Hi kenzoteves, sorry that you had a poor experience with P&F. Our movie and shopping experiences are only available in the US and in the UK. Are you trying to use them in those countries?
Thanks for your feedback,
SC

Hi all, once again, if I download the 5800 version, I can use it on my Nokia 5230 is it normal not to deal with all Symbian^1 at the same time ?
In the shopping experience on the video at the P@F site, I see a normal barcode scanned. Does this feature work yet? I have an E71 and in Shopping the camera window is horizontally bisected by a white line. Nothing happens with 1 or 2d barcodes are under the camera. Should I press a button? Align the line across the code? Above/below the code?
In the US. I'd love to use this for ISBN barcodes.
Having exactly the same problem as speedgrapher and xmassacrex. I installer point and find on my 5800 Nav Edition. It automatically installed to the phone memory. All I get is 'No Data' test on blank screen and 'No GPS Signal' icon at top right of the screen. The camera is never activated. This happens for all 'experiences' - Shopping, Movies, City Guide, 2D barcode. from my mobile. I thought that might be a problem so I uninstalled, downloaded separately from the site, transferred the SIS to my phone and then installed. Same issues.
First I had installed point and find directly by going to http://pointandfind.nokia.com/
I am in the UK and the barcode scanner simply does not work properly, every product I have scanned gives the result - sorry no product information available (and i tried many poducts)
Until the barcode database is actually improved dramatically this application is useless
I manually searched the word "heinz" as this is a major food company and apparently this software is usable in supermarkets - the results i got back from this search where for novelty non food items - so as it stands using the scanner in a supermarket to compare prices is not possible right now
I'm in the UK and it works reasonable well. I used the camera to scan the barcode on Pro Evolution Soccer 2010 on the PS3 and it picked it up instantly and found the cheapest Web price. Couldn't do much else on from there but it's a beta product and the signs so far are pretty promising.
One qualm I did have was the movie poster business, it would identify the wrong film a lot of the time which was frustrating but let's hope this improves quickly because the Android equivalent is currently miles ahead
Downloaded fine over my home WiFi, but once installed and running, would not continue. Seemed unable to make use of my WiFi connection.
I could not find how to read barcodes. Not interested in the other aspects of the app.
Uninstalled after 10mins.
