Nokia Software Updater beta adds Windows 7 support
Wed, 2010-01-13 17:10Written by Mikko Inkinen, Nokia Software Updater
Hello Beta Labs!
We have now added Windows 7 support for Nokia Software Updater and would like to offer you guys a preview version before we put it out for the rest of the world. In the same release we also included the cool “What’s New” service for much more languages than previously and we improved the USB connection to be more robust.
*
This release candidate is almost ready to go live for all users and we only intend to keep it in Beta Labs for a few weeks. Thus we don’t expect big problems, but if there are any critical improvements needed those will be included in the actual release. Smaller items will be fixed in the coming releases. Also, we would like to use this channel to gather other interesting improvement ideas. Nokia Software Updater is all about user experience in getting the latest software in a robust and convenient manner.
We would like to hear especially if you have any problems with the USB connection and which kind of PC hardware you used.
Try it out and let us know how you like it!
Mikko

and my RM-507 with v20 was rolled back to v12 on NSU...
isn't software update from now on integrated into ovi suite?
Nokia SW Updater will be there as a light little convenient application aside with OVI Suite. Users have the choice to use either one. OVI Suite is the complete solution for all the services you might want with your device.
ooh, that's some fw version number you've got there in the screenshot ;) cheers!
We're all on v20 and the screenshot shows v52

I'm still receiving the "configuration error" message.
Firewall is off, Win 7 32bit installed, dont know what is causing this.
For the others with FW.20
That's because you have a branded phone. YOu have to wait for Vodafone to clear the latest FW from Nokia. Unbranded phones dont have that issue.
I've got a branded phone and have v20 running as vodafone OKed it at the end of November I think.

It's not working here. I'm facing the exact same problem I had before. The application gets stuck on the " starting application " screen just like the way it was on the regular SWU client. I hope you fix this issue soon because it's getting frustrating to always have to go and use my other PC when wanting to update my phone.
When are we likely to see Mac OS X support? Any timeline/Roadmap?

If you're having a problem with the configuration error and are running win7 or alike.
Goto the search bar under start menu.
Type services
in services local, sort by name and look for ICS-Internet Connection Sharing.
Stop this and then try restarting the nokia updater. It got me past the config error.
However, now when i try and update the RM-505 N97 it gets to downloading the software from Nokia and then resets everytime it gets to about 120mb out of 147mb.
Anyone know why?
Starting to get annoyed with this Nokia now, it's my first time back from Sony Ericsson and so far it's just a pain in the ass.
