Introducing Nokia Messaging for S60 5th Edition

Hello,

It’s good to be back with the Beta Labs community, and I’m happy to bring you the prerelease client of Nokia Messaging for S60 5.0 devices. When we released the 1.1 version of Nokia Messaging, we announced support for the Xpress Music 5800 was coming in May. That remains true, but we’re here today because we wanted to get this client out to you as quickly as possible so you could give us feedback and get the most out of your 5800. It’s an all-new client that we’re proud of. It delivers all the great features you’re know from Nokia Messaging, including Push email delivery, IMAP subfolders and mobilizing up to ten mailboxes including Windows Live Hotmail, Yahoo! and Gmail.

Some of the highlights specific to the S60 5.0 client:

Even easier program navigation with support for ‘tap & hold’ contextual functionality
The client is completely fingertip-operated, no stylus required
Functions both in landscape and portrait views
Message previews in the inbox view
Displays address book contact photos in messages

As this is a prelease you must pay careful attention to the installation instructions. We are putting this client out to begin to gather feedback for the next version of the S60 5.0 client: don’t expect changes between this client and the final release for everyone in May. When I try to setup my eMail account it always says "unable to connect server" but how could it connect to my mail server as long as I haven't entered any server address? Does it guess the server address from my mail adress' domain? That won't work as my mail server has another domain.

Good app except i would prefer it if it followed the connection priorities in the "Destinations" settings. At the mo, you can set it to 3g or wifi but not to switch between depending on connection availability and priority of that particular connection.

Well, good software, but i can't synchronize my others directory in my personal IMAP mail server (like spam directory, or personnal created directories...).

@obee - You can sync your folders, but you need to turn this on in the web UI. Login to http://email.nokia.com/ and select "Edit settings" next to the appropriate account to select which folders to sync.

Nice looking app, well designed controls. Unfortunately, it's quite slow on my 5800. Switching to create new mail screen from inbox takes about 4 seconds (gmail IMAP). Otherwise, good show!

i deleted this app due to one huge reason, theres NO indicator that i got a mail when the phone is on the background! only one email ringtones, but what if i cannot hear that tone? or when im not in the room?

even the default email app displays some kind of visual indicator

If a person in my contact list has multiple email addresses, the email client does not ask to specify which address I want to send to. Instead the email is sent to all of the addresses.

Searching through contacts could use the same method as in the phonebook--start typing the name (by clicking the letters) and matching contacts will be filtered.

Kinetic scrolling would be a nice addition.

That's all from my 2 minutes of use so far.

Totally agree! If a person in my add book has two email addresses, when sending him/her a new message, all of them are selected. Furthermore having possibility to choose the sender with the "big buttons with the letters" as per the address books, would be a great improvement

the scroll bar is impossible to grab...

it would be useful to be able to choose the "group" of connections to use, rather than only one (ie: internet instead of "connection a"). This would allow the phone to switch to wireless connection as soon as i come home, for example (higher priority of this connection on the list) and switch back to 3g when i am out and about.

for the rest, it's a great beta

It's great, I configured my gmail account and work realy good, but one or thre times the aplicattions close alone. I like the big posibility to configured when you like sync.

It's the best beta of nokia

Hmmmm another app for nokia tube. I dont get da point y all r so xcited. Its high time we got some gud games or gud useful apps. Remember it was called as iphpne killer

I dont think it can atleast talk abt iphone. I was happy whn i was using my n95 8gb even though da slider wobbled (he he its common wth all nokia slider phones to behave like dis). Nokia doesnt provide da best build quality but still u gotta compromise. Nw my tube hardly has anythin apart frm few stupid games. No youtube app. No emtube. Or mobitubia. Bloody hell whts da point of huge screen. Ngage is a distant dream. I wonder nw nokia N97 is really worth it or not...

Nokia n97 is a slider phone first of all. Secondly it also runs on dis useless s60v5. Thirdly should wait 4 generations to get decent apps n games. NOKIA I BOLDLY SAY THIS. TOUCH SCREENS R NT UR CUP OF TEA. PLZZZZ FORGET IT N GO BACK TO UR BASICS. SRY FOR BEING RUDE BUT I AM DAMM IRRITATED N I KNOW IN DA NEXT 5 MONTHS ALSO I WILL B WAITIN FOR GAMES N APPS FOR MY 5800. I have set up Nokia Messaging on my E71 and log in with a normal IMAP Acount of a Mailserver.

I have had to hard reset my phone after I update my firmware to 31.101 which came out recently and I have had to reinstall my nokia email .. but the SMS doesnt seem to be coming through!! this is very annoying.. I've been trying since Wednesday !!!

is there something wrong with the nokia site ? my network operator seems fine..

it says if the sms doesnt arrive use the phone's browser to download the software.. but when I do that my email gets loaded in my messaging folder .... HOW IS THIS THE SAME THING ??? that messaging folder thing is awful..

Please let me know if there is anyother way to reinstalll nokia messaging on my phone.. thanks in advance..
