Nokia Photo Browser updated - now available also for S60 3rd Edition FP1 and FP2
Tue, 2009-04-14 09:17Written by Juha Kauppinen, Senior Design Engineer, Nokia Photo Browser team
Dear beta users,
Here we have long waited Nokia Photo Browser for S60 3rd Edition phones. There are two separate installation files. One is for S60 3.1 phones and S60 3.2 phones without accelerometer sensor. Another one is for S60 3.2 phones with accelerometer sensor. At the moment latter category phones are N86, E75, 6720 Classic, 5730XM, E55, N79, N85, N96 and 6210 Navigator. Our aim is to merge sis files later to make installation easier. Photo Browser is tested with most common phone models only so your comments and error reports are very much appreciated.
Photo browsing is dead simple. Move in grid and view images with scroll key. Left softkey brings out the options. Currently you can see image information, delete image and start face browsing (if faces are detected). Right softkey exits the program.
Download Nokia Photo Browser
Thank you for feedback so far. It has been very valuable and actions are ongoing to improve the quality of this beta app. Happy photo browsing!
- Juha

Is this licensed from Cooliris? If not, it's a blatant ripoff of it.
on my nokia 5800 - how do i bring up the options tab???
Y para el N73? Aaaaah!...
No icon for this app? Only the generic "piece of a puzzle" one?
> Hey, another Photo browser??? Why can
So does it add any accelerometer support on the FP2 phones? Don't have the 85 with me at the moment, so cannot check.
I
Hey, another Photo browser??? Why can't we have single App for this?
What is roadmap for ImageExchange and now Photobrowser?
It's work on my E51, but the quality of images aren't the same as in the default browser. Is it normal? And the option buton isn't visible. We don't see which option is offer to us.
Waiting for some updates
Great app, but indeed as 'Min' said, its a blatant ripoff from CoolIris, the add-on for FireFox.
However, i like it. Better this then northing :)
why does not of these betas work right on the n96
When i try to install on my E71 I get a message stating "Application not compatible with phone", but I just said YES to installing and it installed fine on my E71.
Got the same message when I tried to install it on my N96. Works fine though.
Same as gerrymoth. Complains about installation on E71 but then proceeds regardless. It's pretty slow though and there's no magnifying glass there or am I wrong?
I love it.
I use a Nokia E71 and it is little slow on this device. It takes sometime until it clearly display the image from the thumbnail to full image.
Also one question, does it only work with picture taken with the device? I have some pictures from another source that are being grayed.
okay, found the magnifyer! it's * and #. space bar rotates the pic.
@charliebrown: Try restarting your phone and the icon will appear :)
It works fine on mine N 6120, just on exit shows some error.
The N95 has an accellerometer... how come it's listed as not having one?
Hello.
I Installed on N95 8GB (RM-421) v31.2.007, during install shows the message 'Application not compatible with phone' but at the end it work just fine. I have about 40 pictures on the phone, it takes a while to show them all, face browsing works on most pictures with faces.
Image rotation with accelerometer works very responsive !.
Jonny, just install S60 3rd Edition FP1 version, it will work fine with the accelerometer.
One thing i noticed is when browsing photos on N95 in portrait mode, the menu shows sideways, i think its the only way the menu works.
The menu should rotate as well as the iimage, i guess so.
Another issue.
When starting the application in portrait mode, only the selected image is rotated, you have turn the phone to landscape and then back to portrait to get all the images rotated.
It would be desirable (even in this beta stage) to have some kind of help to know the functions of each of the keys during photo browsing, Maybe some momentaneous slide of the key function mapping, to then dissapear. Similar to the icon help of the camera app. Some sort of ballon help. ;-)
Would it be nice that the application can rotate the photos in any direction in response to the accelerometer ? What do you think ?
Juha.
Congratulations !, this is a fine application, hope some day it will replace the standard photo browsing of the phone.
Carlos
@ gerrymoth: I've been too lazy to restart the phone... now the icon has appeared, thank you! :-)
Resco Photo Viewer has none of the issues that the basic gallery or this has. I don't understand how a third party can make a more responsive app than Nokia's version.
I have 1000+ images on my phone, and Resco has no loading what-so-ever for anything, and I can get to any photo I want in seconds, while it can literally take me minutes to get to the same photo in the Gallery. The only time I ever used the Gallery was when I was selecting images for my contacts.
I had hoped that this would use a system similar to Rescos, where thumbnails are cached, but it doesn't seem to, so I've had to uninstall it :(
Speed is so important, something laggy and slow just doesn't cut it, no matter what features it has.
I must say, that Image Exchange is a better application. It has all the features of this one plus more.
If this should replace gallery, why cannot I do any actions on images? Not send, edit, tag, nothing.
