Text Messenger and Location Tagger archived from Beta Labs
Wed, 2008-05-28 13:41As discussed earlier, we have now moved Nokia Text Messenger and Nokia Location Tagger to Beta Labs Archive. This means that you can continue using them, but Nokia is not further developing these as standalone apps, nor fixing any bugs.
The good news is that you can expect to get similar functionality integrated as part of standard Nokia offering in the future. Thanks for your valuable comments!!
Ps. I think we should add Location Tagger to the Graduates list too, as location tagging functionality has been productized and integrated as part of Nokia device offering.

When you archive apps like location tagger, it would be very useful if you open sourced the source code. i love to write similar software.
So, are you Open Sourcing these applications? If you're not developing them or fixing bugs, can we?
If not, what's the reason?
I think you'd be safe to 'graduate' location tagger.
Too bad. The Text Messenger application is awesome, I use it all the time.

As Antony explained here, location tagging has been productized and integrated as part of new Nokia devices: /2008/05/07/last-update-of-nok ia-location-...

Third'ed (??) for Location Tracker to be Graduated! :D
Tommi, thanks for your support so far to Location Tagger. :)
I have to agree with you. We could "graduate" Location Tagger.
Can any one give me a reason why Location Tagger work is not furthur improved..
Any chance of Location Tagger being released officially for the N95 8GB? I've downloaded it from the Archive, but it'd be nice for that kind of feature to be available to everyone who has this wonderful phone!

I use the program with a N73 and a N78 functioned simply well. Very good program
Hi,
Nokia Text messanger was very helpfull business communication tool. its bad that it has been archieved. In fact I came to post few bugs so that it can be further improved. Please come up with a vista sidebar gaget for messaging even without the help of nokia pc suite.
Thanks
Kripa
So when will we get to see the productized version of location tagger? An upcoming firmware upgrade I assume? Anyone any idea of when?
Thx.
If you take a picture, but don't yet have a GPS lock...then you open "GPS data" program and view the satelite status...as soon as it locks to your coordinates, you would expect the Location Tagger to tag the photo...but instead, the Location Tagger crashes.
If you don't open the "GPS data" program, the phone doesn't know to try and find your coordinates after you take a picture.
Too bad this bug wasn't fixed.
It is so unfortunate that Nokia really doesn't make any progress on their Symbian platform. I understand the deseperate run for releasing new hardware to keep up with other vendors, but slowly this is not what users want anymore. They want evolution in functionality, and this seems a kind of mission impossible with Nokia... It's been years I have been using all kind of Nokia symbian phones, whether from the 6xxx, N, E Series and frankly speaking : nothing is truly evolving.
Look at geotagging for instance : how can it be possible a manufacturer, who above all owns the Operating System, is not even able after good beta projects like Location Tagger, to have this integrated by default ? I have now a Nokia 5800 and it really puzzles me to have such basic functionalities.... Guys, I have loved nokia for years, but the kind of new generation ones like T-Mobile G1 or Palm Pre will be my next ones - it is going to be over with Nokia, unless Nokia can proove it can reinvent itself, and not only release incomplete new phones every 2 months or so.
Come on Nokia, wake up ! I know you don't care... I'm not the average consumer. You will continue to sell millions of phones a day, but hey, one day you're going to wake up, and it's just going to be too late. And it's gonna hurt...
